WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50

The first March was held in 1970 and has since become an annual civil rights demonstration. Over the years, its purpose has broadened to include recognition of the fight against AIDS and to remember those we have lost to illness, violence and neglect.

The March is a celebration of our lives and our community. In 2018, we were joined by over 550 unique marching contingents, representing a vast array of non-profits, community organizations, corporate sponsors, small businesses, political candidates and activists! With over 100 floats making the trek along the route, last year’s March was one of the largest and most exciting in history.

NYC Pride is thrilled to announce its talent announcement with the legendary Saturday headliner Grace Jones, along with Teyana Taylor, Pabllo Vittar, and more for Pride Island 2019. Pride Island, the multi-day live musical event featuring dazzling performances, will take place from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Pier 97 in New York City.

Grace Jones, an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and actress, was born in Jamaica before relocating to Syracuse, NY with her family. She began her successful career as a model in NYC and Paris and, in 1977, secured her first record deal which resulted in a string of dance-club hits, including “I Need A Man,” and her acclaimed reinvention of Edith Piaf’s classic, “La Vie En Rose.”

Teyana Taylor, one of the most versatile entertainers of her generation, is set to give face and New York ballroom realness during Saturday’s lineup. Also set to blaze the stage is Brazil’s most famous drag queen, Pabllo Vittar.

Somewhere between 90’s American pop and 80’s European disco, rises the undeniable voice of Kim Petras. Nodding to influences as diverse as Britney Spears, Baltimora, and the “Brat Pack,” the “side bun” sporting German-born and Los Angeles-based songstress powers up a new pop paradigm, sharing intimate lovelorn storylines over explosive production.

Rounding out Saturday night, is Afro-Latina pop sensation, Amara La Negra, along with popular NYC DJ, Johnny Dynell, who will bring his infectious and inclusive style to the stage.

On Pride Island Sunday, Abel and Morabito will take the lead, with Abel spinning classic dancefloor hits and Morabito turning out progressive, tech house influenced sounds.
